AE CS 5.5 Warp Stabilizer vs ProDad Mercalli v2 plugin

Hi
About to drop some coin on the CS5.5 Production suite. The latest AE has the Warp Stabilizer which is supposed to be useful for shaky cam footage. I was just wondering if I should also invest in the ProDad Mercalli v2 plugin for Premiere....does the plugin offer anything that Warp Stabilizer doesn't?

Both work very similarly and produce anything from great to mixed results. Unfortunately I have found them both next to useless when attempting to to stabilize close up shots with shallow depth of field which is a shame but they do work really well for wider shots. Right now I still prefer Mercalli over the warp stabilizer simply because warp stabilizer when not working provides you with an error 'stabilization failed' whereas Merc at least provides some sort of result, even if perhaps not right. If you've just dropped a heap on cs5.5 I'd give warp stabilizer a good run before buying the additional Mercalli thugh as you might find you are quite happy with WS and don't really need the added expense of Merc. You can always send the clips from premiere to AE that you need to stabilize and then back to premiere and your edit. Warp stabilizer does of course have the added simulate edges feature which just like Photoshop and its content aware tools either works well or dreadfully. Hope this helps more than confuses.

Thanks
For a recent project used the free deshaker + Virtual Dub solution. Not as friendly an interface as Mercali and harder to fine tune but the results are great
