I'm currently editing with Adobe CS3 on a PC. I shoot mostly with my DVX100b,
but have recently purchased a Canon 7D.
I'd like to purchase a Marshall monitor (V-LCD70XP-HDMI) to use on location
with my 7D, and I'm wondering if I can also use it as a production monitor
while I edit.
I have a Matrox RTX2 with component out, and I'm wondering how well that
will work (if at all) at reviewing my 7D HD footage in the timeline while editing.
I realize that eventually I should upgrade to CS5 and a system with HDMI out,
but in the meantime I'm interested in any advice on the quality of this solution.
How does component out compare to HDMI? Will I be able to accurately judge
the colour of the final video?
Ultimately I'll be down-converting for mastering to DVD or encoding for posting
on the web, but I'd like to be able to monitor the video while editing.
Thanks in advance for any advice you may have.
Peter
P.S. My system uses 2 SyncMaster 226BW monitors, which have never been
particularly good for judging video in the timeline. I use an external JVC
production monitor for that.
