Hey guys I'm looking to get a new editing system but jeez the technology has changed a lot from the old days *ahem*

Any of you guys recommend a detailed list of specs to get me started?

I intend to shoot an hvx feature this year and want to do a lot of digital effects, I also use cinema 4d, poser and all kinds of intensive goodies (ahem sometimes that might include medieval total war 2...)

But anyway! What would u guys spend £4k or $8k on?

*falls on knees* I beg you brothers for your assistance :crybaby:

I'd get a mac with the following specs:

Subtotal $6,547.00

Specifications

Two 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon (8-core)
2GB (2 x 1GB)
320GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s
2 x ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256MB
Apple Cinema HD Display (30" flat panel)
Apple Cinema HD Display (30" flat panel)
One 16x SuperDrive
Apple Mighty Mouse
Apple Keyboard (English) + Mac OS X

And then I'd go over to macsales.com and order the ram and hard drives;

8GB RAM- http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other World Computing/64FB2MPK08GB/

2 x 1TB Hard Drives- http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Western Digital/WD10EACS/

Macsales total- $857.97

Mac Pro + MacSales Total = $7404.97 USD

First, you need to decide which NLE you are going to go with. Then build the hardware around it. For example, with Vegas you want a multi core processor, but don't need a particularly potent GPU.

Right, with the Mac, Final Cut Pro and the rest of the Final Cut Suite screams, I'd say you should go for it.

If you want a professional system, get a PC and AVID Media Composer.
When you really get into it, you don´t want to work with semi-professional editing tools.
Avid is the number1 choice of Hollywood professionals.

Righto sorry chaps for being so late to reply!

Mine is based around the CS 3 Creative Suite - with a bit o' Poser and Cinema 4d thrown in!

So it would have to be PC based yep - tech specs appreciated guys! Avid is a funny one for me - i think where my projects are aimed I can live without it - but i know it is thee beloved tool of many professionals (as is FCP)
