Advice needed on Lens for adapter

Hi

I have an HPX171 and just purchased SGBLADE 35mm lens adapter...with Nikon and Canon lens mounts.

I know nothing about 35mm lens or adapters so I'm looking to learn - and request pointers/advice on choosing an affordable lens - even if it's just a good one for starters so I can get used to the kit.

I happen to have an old CENTON 35mm SLR camera that has a 50mm lens on it - I believe this is the Minolta D fitting? I also have a Cannon 350D with standard 18-55mm lens. Are either of these any use to this adapter?

What sort of lens should I be looking out for?

Also - can anyone recommend reading that would explain about lens and get me on the right path?

My only suggestion is go with a standard prime (50mm f1.2/f1.4/f1.7/f1.8) first. that Centon you have would be great to learn on. That Canon 18-55 is pretty slow to use with a 35mm adapter, personally i try to avoid even f2.8's.

Canon FD's are fairly cheap, thats what i use, as well as Nikkor primes, Nikkors are a bit more but great quality, really any quality fast prime is what you want.

i avoid zooms, mostly because for a fast zoom the cost is rather outrageous unless you use it for photography as well. i have my pro trio of Nikkors, the 14-24 f2.8, 24-70 f2.8, and70-200VR II f2.8, and i rarely use them for video for 3 reasons.

firstly they belong to me, and while i trust my crew, i trust i take better care of them than anyone else; if im not shooting and not pressed to NEED flexibility in focal ranges, they stay at home.

second, they tend to focus breathe a LOT, and there is some distortion i prefer to avoid to begin with at certain focal lengths.

third, they are HEAVY and slower than the fixed focal length lenses i normally pack (plus the 14-24 f2.8 cannot accept filters of a sane size) where i can throw 5 or so Nikkor or Canon FD primes in a bag, they can get jostled a bit and not worry me, and they are very compact in comparison to the zooms, plus the majority of them are faster than f2.8, and 35mm adapters are already light hogs.

...plus a cost difference of 5-7 thousand dollars. i would stick with primes.

no problem, any further questions feel free to PM me or email me. i have 4 interns learning with me now and taught photography at the end of my college career; im always willing to help if i can.

Zissou (or anyone else passing by) can I get that extra advice you offered??

To recap - I have the Sgblade with a Canon EOS mount.

To confirm this I have successfully connected my standard 18-55mm lens from my Canon EOS 350D to the sgbade - all ok.

What I want (as mentioned above) is to use an old 50mm Minolta lens that I had on a Centon camera.

The lens says "Minolta MD ROKKOR 50mm 1:17 Lens made in Japan"

Instead of paying £45 for the shoot35 Minolta MD mount I have seen adapters on ebay for fraction of the price that adapt the lens to a different mount. I have checked with shoot35 and they say these work OK.

But I want some help to make sure I order the right adapter...

I have found this one that has glass to allow focus to infinity

And this one that doesn't focus to infinity.

My question - they are the right ones for my set up aren't they?

Which one do I need - I'm guessing/hoping the one that doesn't focus to infinity because it's cheaper and has no glass.

For video use I don't want to focus to infinity do I? Or do I?

Sorry for the lame questions but appreciate it if you can assist?
