Advice needed: low-res -> conform workflow?

Hey everybody...

So the main editor in my sketch comedy team Sans Pants is moving to LA and I'm trying to develop a workflow where he can still cut the sketches we shoot here in NYC. I basically need a way to encode/compress these MXFs to make them manageable enough to FTP. Our shoots usually amount to around 30-50gb uncompressed.

I want to upload low-res files to our FTP, have him cut it in LA & send back the project file, and then I would relink/conform to the high res media.

Any advice for pulling this off in PP CS3? I'm not familiar with PP's encoding/low-res options (whereas, in Avid for example, you can bring in clips at 15:1s, 14:1, etc. to do your offline edit).

Any insight would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks!

Well you could use a program such as Visual Hub to render your current footage out to a smaller resolution. You can also put all of the raw footage in a premiere project and export it out at a very low resolution. Then when he is done with the edit, all he needs to do is email you back the premiere file and you substitute all the low quality footage with the high quality stuff.

Take a look at the Batch Encoding function of P2 Forge.

Not sure how it handles T/Code (and the subsequent workflow) but I know it can retain the clip name from the P2 file through to whatever you encode as.
