Advanced composition tips?

I'm doing a project right now that involves some simple photographic techniques, but I really am interested in playing with composition. I already have an understanding of selective focus, curves, rue-of-thirds, lines, etc., but any advanced compostional tricks involving shape, patterns or perspective would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Staging your shot along the z-axis is a known method, not really a trick. The other day I was photographing out by the marsh and there is a barb wire fence that ran parellel to me which provided a nice strong vector in the composition. I then composed my shot so some dead palm tress were staggered down this line on the z-axis. Haven't seen it yet, but in the viewfinder it looked good.

Another technique I was trying out was low angles on tall objects (like a tree) with some objects in the foregroud, yet the focus was on the background. These are just things that I was messing around with.

Some other photographic techniques would be panning shots and if you have a depth of field scale on your lens you can use that get a nice selective DOF, which combined with the right composition, yields fantastic results.
