Hi

Just wanted to share a screengrab of a film that shows how present is advertising in films. well, in this case I think it's too overkilled for a film frame.....

I think this was taken in hong kong but I'm not sure.

so what do you think about the increasing presence of below the line advertising in films? Is it overkilled?

pd: can i post a frame from a film, or is it illegal?

Well that's the problem we're facing now. But we see so many advertisements nowadays that they leave us with a sort of narcotizing dysfunction that leaves us numb. We no longer pay attention to them, and they're simply a visual obstruction, or even light pollution.

Now advertising is reacting to this narcotizing dysfunction by escalation. They try and find new, flashier, bigger ways to advertise so that they stand out amongst the rest. This leads the others to follow, and yet again, we become numb to these bigger or flashier advertisements.

Rather than reducing the advertisements, they'll only increase, and get worse.

They're developing new advertisements that can be animated. They've got buses that have an entire advertisement covering the side of the bus rather than just a small banner (which leaves the window on the side difficult to see through). It's not going to stop, only get worse.

So it's obvious that they want to get into films.

I hate it, especially when it pulls you out of the film (like in castaway, kept thinking, give me a break, a FED EX guy won't be that dedicated).

That is Hong Kong and that is normal there. Nearly every building on Hong Kong Island has an ad. I don't really see it as the films problem though as there would be no way of filming Hong Kong without catching the ads. It would be the same if you tried to film in Time Square.
