ADR software?

I am editing on Sony Vegas and need a great software package for automatic dialogue replacement. Can be a standalone but must run on a pc.

Thank you for your help!

ADR actually stands for Automated Dialogue Replacement or basically Additional Dialogue Recording.

There is no package to automatically insert dialogue. It needs to be rerecorded while the talent watches and syncs with the playback. Basically the talent re-performs the performance. And those takes are then inserted into the mix.

Protools is a great package to use.

A good plugin (or standalone) software choice to help sync the audio to the original is Vocalign (by SynchroArts).

This helps when trying to sync lips 'perfectly' and works nicely (as long as the ADR takes are close to the original).

I'd like to know why ADR would take a special software, isn't the trick up to the talent?

Also, I've noticed they often project the footage on a big screen. Is it easier for talent to sync watching a bigger image? Or is it just more immersive and allow for a more real performance.

All yeses, Yes you need "special software" yes its mostly up to the talent or a dam good editor and yes watching the performance helps put you back into a frame of mind, and yes it allows the talent to see their lips and timing better.

You need an audio editor, its good to see and hear what you ADR, so that would be a "special" audio editor that can play video and record to an different track.

You also should have each line on a loop and record them over and over, so your editor has lots of versions of the same words to work with.
