Adobe...

OK, so I went to an Adobe product seminar this morning (where they talked about Premiere Pro 1.5, AE 6.5, PS CE, etc, all their new products).

When they're doing the Ecore demonstration, I noticed that the preset was to make a 29.97i DVD, and there wasn't a way to change that frame rate (at least on the screen they had up).

So I raise my hand, and ask about 24P DVDs...ie: how would you create one.  They said that there was no such thing as 24P DVDs, and that ALL DVD discs by Hollywood are encoded as 29.97i MPEG files...I then said that "I had the understanding that" Hollywood made 24P MPEG2 files, and the DVD player itself adds the pulldown.  The product guy said "well I guess I don't know what I'm talking about then" and moved on.  People around me started to chuckle a bit, and one guy (sitting directly behind me) re-iterates what the seminar's speaker already had said: NO SUCH THING AS A 24P DVD.  He then went on to say how you should NEVER shoot in 24P unless you're going to film, because you can always add effects in post to 29.97i footage...

I thought this was kinda funny.... :P

Re: Adobe...

Typical, but a lot of people don't understand 24p yet. Unfortunately, rather than learn something new from you, the instructor and students made asses of themselves.

I hear that all the time.

Usually to justify non-DVX camera purchases, actually . . .

Yeah, people can be full of it and not know what they're talking about... the instructor was at least able to acknowledge he didn't know about it, but the student behind you was just being an idiot...
