Adobe Premiere Versions

Hey Guys,

What are the different versions of Premiere Pro and what are the pro's and con's of using them? I have been trying to find people that have copies of Premiere Pro 1.5 and have had no luck... all that I can find is Premiere Pro 7.0. I JUST bought a AG-DVX100A and want to shoot something in 24p. Any problems with just using 7.0? What are the drawbacks? Do I REALLY need 1.5? Any help would be MUCH appreciated :).

Here's a link to the new features in ver. 1.5

I believe ver. 7.0 is the same as Pro 1.0. If I remember correctly they released it as ver. 7 then changed it to Pro 1.0 to sort of fit with the new numbering scheme for the other products like Photoshop. Photoshop went from ver. 7 to CS at about the same time.
I may be remembering incorrectly though.
I had ver. 6.5 then upgraded to ver. Pro 1.0 and 1.5.1 (the most current ver.) Not sure I remember much changes between 1.0 other than the Project Management Tools, Bezier Keyframing abilities and the HD support. I beleive the 24P/PA support is a bit better also.

Hope this helps. I'm sure someone will correct me if I was wrong about the ver.7=Pro1.0 thing.

Premiere 7 or, as they later called it, Premiere Pro 1, doesn't support 24p timelines. That means you have to use the 2:3 pulldown and edit on a normal timeline. You don't really need 1.5 but it is quite nice if you want to make a 24p DVD or edit the actual 24frames.

That's good to know... man I really need to get Premiere Pro 1.5...

On an semi related note... I have an XiSO that I need to burn and I have no idea how to... I have tried everything including using Nero and Daemon and NOTHING is working. The file is too big to fit onto a 4.7 GB DVD+R and it would fit on a DVD-R but I can't burn to those. Any ideas? It CAN be done I just have no one who has been able to help me figure it out! Any help would be MUCH appreciated!

I think it's an XBOX gaming format, but this information (which is a bundle of programs) was saved that way.

Ahhh, that explains it. You're trying to STEAL XBox software?
That, along with your comment in the first post:
I have been trying to find people that have copies of Premiere Pro 1.5 and have had no luck..
leads me to believe you are just out to rip software. Maybe you should find a warez forum to post on??????
I don't think you'll get much support on this subject here.

No no no... I was originally looking for a copy of Premiere to try out from someone who had a backup made of theirs... couldn't find anyone who had anything except on person who had it saved as an XiSO file that they had made (that they purposely made that way so that on one could make copies of it). He allowed me to use it but I have no idea how to make a backup of it. NOTHING I am doing is illegal and I certainly wouldn't have posted asking for help if that were the case.

If that's truely the case, and you are just wishing to "try it" out before purchasing, then just go to Adobe's site and download the 30day tryout that is FULLY functional.
Sorry if I was harsh above. I just hate people that steal software. I buy it and because of the thieft issue I pay WAY TOO MUCH.

No man, I totally understand and feel the same way! Plus I get an educational discount if I buy it... I just don't want to buy it and find out that it isn't what I needed ;)!

..well to be more clear. PPRO 1.0 DOES support 24p timelines.. 24p timelines have been supported since way back before premiere pro. its only that they didnt support the naitive ability to pull down the true 24p from the 60i stream. but you CAN use another program such as DV filmmaker or AE or whatever to do the 24p extraction , and then load the true 24p file into just about any version of premiere for editing. PPRO 1.5 up has the ability to do it in the pulldown in the program itself though.

I have Premiere Standard (7) Premiere Pro and Premiere Pro 1.5 and I have found that for my TV show that I produce that the standard version does a much better job. When I use the 24p time line in pro it gets all choppy when I print it out to tape and looks terrible on interlaced tv. Where the standard version does not recognize the 24p does not do the pull down and does not get choppy. It does however still have the filmic look of 24p which is what I want. I do miss the sequences you only have one time line in Premiere Standard. If you have never heard of Premiere Standard I had never heard of it either but it came on my new VAIO with some great plugins like VAIO particle maker and a whole bunch of VAIO transitions and effects. I still use Pro for everything else.
