Adobe Premiere -> unable to import Mpeg2 or Mpeg 4 files?

When trying to import the mpeg files, premiere states, "Unable to import as the file is unsupported or damage"?

Anyone know how to resolve this issue.....?
 
whats the file from, mpeg can be imported but id use virtual dub mod and convert the file to DV or DV100 first
 
I'm running PPro CS3 on a Mac and ran into this same problem. I thought it might be unique to the Mac? Anyway, I used MPEG Streamclip to do a Quicktime conversion, then the files imported without a problem.
