Adobe Premiere Rush CC

It's an app for your phone or tablet that lets you edit.
I like the interface, but after playing with some of the test footage I added a song from the library on my iPhone 8+ and it crashed and keeps crashing immediately when I try to reopen that project.
I managed to fix the crashing issue by turning sync off for the project.

Other than that, it seems alright. As a Premiere Pro CC editor it's nice to have something somewhat familiar for the phone. But they have to fix the bugs.

That crashing thing seems to be a pattern with Premiere Pro these days also. I have three colleagues who are/were PP users and all bailed on Premiere because they said it was not reliable for the past year, two Mac users and one PC user, kind of like FCP 3.0 era reliability. Interesting that their latest Rush product seems to do the same. Adobe needs to take the emphasis off of "neat feature" bloat and put back onto the stability and reliability team. Doesn't matter how cool a program is if it's not stable and reliable.

I also left Premiere due to instability. Ran it on a Mac trashcan at work, and on two mid to high end computers at home. Crashed all the time. Now I use Avid for my serious work and Resolve for quick YouTube videos. I have no regrets leaving.

I agree 1000% our company has 5 Adobe workstations that have always been solid performers but the last year they are complete CRAP

Not sure what I am doing wrong but my PPro is really stable (knock knock) and I am no fanboy at all. I really tried to switch to Resolve, but..geeez that app is so slow and dumb. Sometimes I edit smaller jobs inside Resolve and it is night and day compare to Premiere when it comes to speed. Maybe export is little bit faster and stabilization is way faster but rest...and yeah Resolve (free version) is crashing all the time. I am on custom built PC, 4 years old.

PP CC has been stable for me as well this last year or 18 months on Sierra 2012 mac pro 12 core with a flashed Titan X 12gb. if i go back a few years though it was as horrible as it could be for quite a few years. infuriating!! several an hour but granted my timelines were huge but still.

pathetic they have the nerve to raise monthly fee and i just don't see much innovation in PP CC yet Resolve innovated like crazy and its free with my dongle.

I've been in DaVinci Resolve 15 for the last week and in about 35 hours i haven't had one crash yet.

Haven't looked at Rush and don't think I'd bother - the reason being if I'm going to need to quickly cut something on my phone/tablet while in the field, I'll need to dump footage and transfer it via a laptop first anyway. If I'm already pulling the laptop out, why wouldn't I just cut it on that?

As far as stability goes, I've found CC2018 to be ok - still crashing occasionally, but much better than the last couple of versions. I skipped CC2017 (after testing and finding it rather unstable) and stayed on CC2015 for quite a while instead, and I suppose it's time to download 2019 and see what they've manages to break this time around!!

This may depend on what version of Resolve, your codec and hardware. When editing UHD 4k H264 from a DVX-200 on a 2017 iMac or iMac Pro, Resolve 15.1.2 is vastly faster than Premiere 13.0 (2019 version)-- at least in terms of timeline responsiveness, viewer update rate, and lag when using JKL commands. And that's with Premiere set to 1/4 res.

Edit/add: since the thread is about Rush I did a brief test of that, PP 13.0 (2019 ver), Resolve 15.1.2 and FCPX 10.4.3 on a 10-core Vega64 iMac Pro running High Sierra 10.13.6. From a UI standpoint Rush seems like a nice simple (almost template-oriented) editing tool. From a performance and responsiveness standpoint if feels just like Premiere, and probably shares the same rendering code. Like Premiere, since 2018 when Adobe started using Quick Sync or (on the iMac Pro) AMD VCE acceleration for encoding, it exports pretty quickly. Also like Premiere it apparently doesn't use Quick Sync or AMD's UVD for decoding, so timeline responsiveness on 4k H264 can be somewhat sluggish, especially if using JKL commands but almost no novices will use those.

Export test, clip: 2 min 4k 8-bit 4:2:0 100 mbps from Sony A7RIII.
Export parameters: 1080p H264 20 mbps, single pass.

Rush: 49.4 sec
Premiere 2019 ver. 13.0: 47.0 sec
Resolve 15.1.2.008: 35.8 sec
FCPX 10.4.3: 50.1 sec

Probably asking for trouble but I use Premiere on a number of computers - two PCS and my matchbook. Freezes and crashes are rare on all of them. Not sure how I'd edit on a phone?

Grr...my motion graphics designer just old me that all of the .MXF UHD footage I've been shooting for this project is causing AE CC 2019 to crash, lock up and do other weird things.
I researched it, we've tried clearing the cache and renaming the file hierarchy, but still giving us issues, randomly and it appears that we are going to have to turn the dozens of hours of .MXF files I have shot back into .MP4s to correctly function with AE.
Officially, AE supports the .MXF file container format but back in the real world, not so much.
Thanks Adobe!

This is why I never use new versions for critical projects until I've tested them out - and until the first few updates have been released to iron out the worst issues.

Has he tried using the 2018 version and if so did he still have problems with it?
