Adobe On Location in Vegas

I downloaded the trial version of On Location. I tested it on my HVX. It was great!
Next I dropped my test footages on the vegas timeline. The images were all squeezed. The 1080/24p footages had black bars on the sides of the screens instead of the top and bottom cropping for a 16:9 aspect ratio from a P2 upload. The 720/24p had much less black bars on the side but still looked squeezed. Finally, I rendered the files as AVI Dv NTSC. All the footages remained squeezed. What's wrong with my process? Thanks.

What's your project setting?

Right-click on the clips and check the pixel aspect ratios. What are they?

The project settings seem to be on auto. I can't find any advance settings in Onlocation except on the menu of the display monitor. If I right click on the clips size, it reads as follows: AVIT2 format, 960x720. 16:9 aspect ratio on DVC Pro 100 Codecs. The camera was recording at 720/24P recording at DVC Pro 50. If I set the camera at 1080/24P, the clip size is 1280x1080. All clips are squeezed on media player playback and in vegas. How can I change the display settings?

You need to change your vegas project settings to match the clips, don't forget to change the pixel aspect ratio as well.

For 720, you need to change the pixel aspect ratio to 1.333. For 1080, to 1.5.

There's no "auto" project preset. There should be 720 and 1080 HD (not HDV) project presets for you to choose from.

Thank you David and Sharky. I did all that but the clips still remained squeezed. I right clicked on the clip and opened properties. I then unchecked the box that says "maintain aspect ratio". That did the trick. However, it bothers me that i have to do this on every clip.

you can use the selection edit tool to select a number of clips, right click on the selected clips, head to switches, and then hit maintain aspect ratio. only select the video clips. if the audio is also selected, the switch will be disabled. this should switch all the clips at once rather then doing em all individually. not sure if this feature exists in the previous versions of vegas...I'm using V8
