Adobe Media Encoder CS5.5 Does it use all cores on Mac Pro?

I did a M4V batch today and AME used all (16) cores on my MacPro4.1, It was really fast. Did a second encode and it only used half (8) of the cores. Same settings but half as fast. Not sure if I did something to prevent it from using all the resources or its some kind of bug.

when i encoded h.264 bluray on Snow Leapard the computer used 95-100% cpu power. now that I'm on Lion and have the exact same h.264 blurry settings as before adobe media encoder is only using 50-60 cpu power. what is going on?

I can tell you that on a Windows box, sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. If I'm exporting, say, AVCHD --> MPEG-2 DVD, all 8 of my cores get pegged at 100%, but if export, say, AVCHD --> H.264 Blu-Ray, then my CPU usage usually sits around 40-60% or so...I'm not sure why. Maybe it's a codec optimization issue or perhaps it's offloading some processing to my GPU (GPU-Z shows low GPU usage though...) I'm not sure why it does this but I don't think it's Mac-specific. I've had this exact same behavior with 2 versions of Adobe (CS 5 and CS5.5) and 2 machines (dual quad core Xeon and single 2600K w/Hyper Threading).

I'm not sure why it does this but I don't export DVD's/BD's every day so I don't feel like investigating it -- I just set it to export and walk away for the night.
