adobe media encoder 16:9

When I export my video from adobe media encoder I reduce my DV 16:9 resolution to 640x360 which is 1.777777777777778 at 1.0 PAR. This is the same aspect ratio of 16:9 but the preview in adobe media encoder letterboxes it very very slightly. If I adjust the resolution to 640x356 then It is perfect. But the math doesn't add or divide up? Why is this? My theory is that premiere doesn't handle wide-screen DV properly to begin with using a PAR of 1.2 instead of a more accurate 1.22.

This is something that has really been bothering me so please give your insight.

I've noticed that too, with various exports. For a long time, I messed with the frame size and cropping to get it "right", so that there were no black strips like those that appear in the preview. However, recently, I did a test where I was exporting something at 640x480 (I think) and the black bars were in the preview, but I didn't tweak the frame size or the cropping. The export came out perfectly, with no black framing.

Do a short test or two, and I think you'll find that the preview is kind of lying to you :) Don't know why it does it--I just accept it as one of those quirky computer things and move on.
