Adobe Encore DVD & Buttons

So I have two buttons, Special Features and Play Movie.

Each button is composed of three layers, a lower opacity layer, a solid layer, and a text layer.

I want to highlight with the solid layer, but I can't figure out how to use a layer as a selection.

State #1 is Normal and #2 is Selected, right? How do I assign state #1 to the low opacity layer and the text, and state #2 to the solid layer and the text?

Thanks.

P.S. I have the book on Encore, but going off from what it suggested, those built in state change effects will not let me accomplish the above.

Special character prefixes in photoshop layer names is what Encore uses to determine what a is a text layer, a video layer, a highlight layer etc.

So in Encore when you choose your button and select Edit in Photoshop which launches to edit your button you'll see them listed inside folders in the layers palette.

ie.

Video layer names in a button are prefixed with (%)
Hilight layers names in a button are prefixed with (=1)
Button Assemblies themselves are prefixed with (+) and (+)(+#)

Thanks Craig, that makes sense.

Can I add a dissolve transition between the end of a video clip and a menu?

What i do is, just put in a still of the menu at the end of mytimeline when i'm editing whatever it is like an intro vid or the end of a special feature or even clips between menu's and add some cheesy shutter going up or burnout effect that finishes with the stillframe of the menu. (make sure there is no black at end!) and then it goes straight into the menu without you even noticing itand everyone goes ooohhhh!!! super easy to do, just choose either to have button 1 highlighted or no buttons, don't have button 1 highlighted if it's set to go to button 3 or something like that... Preview preview preview!!! and try every combination or menus and videos or whatever before you aredone.
Hope this helps.
