Adobe CC confusion

I have CC and am a bit confused as to the offerings and I must be missing something when I read Adobe's explanations. First of all lets just take the case of After Effects. I downloaded AE6 when I signed up but now along with that I just downloaded AECC, so now I have two AE's, both are being updated. I understand that the CC uses (or can use) the cloud, but can't AE6? I wasn't sure where to put all my plugins for CC, but it seems to me if I use a different computer to update projects on those plugins won't work anyways so I'm thinking what is the benefit? Maybe there is a doc somewhere or an explanation that can help a simpleton like myself? Also maybe the CC version is a replacement for the AE6 version and I should dump the 6? I do know the CC version has some features 6 doesn't like the C4D stuff and the roto brush refinement tool

CC is a replacement for 6. Did you join the cloud suite thing ($49.95 a month). If you did you don't need 6 installed anymore. The cloud version will do everything, including give you access to programs you may not have had before. I would keep the version 6 software on disc somewhere, just in case you every want to break the cloud string. I'm 100% cloud and I love it.
