Adobe Acquires Serious Magic

Well, I guess Premiere Pro is about to improve greatly. Hmm, it would be nice to have Premiere on a notebook with DV Rack integrated in it.

I hope this won't become another "Sony aquires Vegas" thing, which was untimately bad for the community.

Amen brother, It would have been nice to see sonic foundry and serious magice join forces and keep putting out top notch products. But at least Adobe is in the NLE business and not the camera business.

On the other hand they do have a nice line of products stacking up now. Priemere, After effects and Ultra, Photoshop and DV rack Now if they can just get some really solid color correction software they'd be there. This is really enough for me to abandon Vegas all together.

As a Vegas user this makes me sad. They keep pushing me to use Premiere Pro at work and I just don't like it and I keep pushing back to the point I almost have them ready to buy copies of Vegas and switch. But I just discovered Ultra 2 a couple of days ago and was hoping to use it with Vegas. Now convincing them will be even harder.

Roxics -

What problems are you having with Ultra 2 in Vegas? I have Ultra 2 and capture avi files that can be imported to Vegas. Maybe because Adobe acquired Serious Magic, they are only listing their products. If you read the find print it says "reads and writes standard AVI, DV, HDV and HD video clips." This means Ultra 2 is compatible with any program capable of reading the above files.

Have a great day.

Yes, but what about future support? It's just another great product that will be moving away from Vegas in the future. We'll see all kinds of cool interfaces from DVRack to Premiere pro, and Vegas will get even harder to use and sell to clients. Again it reminds me of the Amiga computer (I'm dating myself here) The best product of the time, killed by lack of support.

This happens at a time when there are now several product like DV rack coming to market. Two in particular that work on a Mac. And that makes me happy.

My concern is that the next thing you'll see, they bundle it with Premiere, and you will no longer be able to get it at a reasonable price. I have no interest in using Premiere, but I love DV Rack.

Oh - and I don't have much experience with Adobe support, but SM is (was ) just great.

Visual Communicator

Visual Communicator

The best program so far in the whole country is Visual Communicator, from Serious Magic. However, I always need to export the output an cut , edit in Premiere, for VC lacks some stupid features like there is no way to eliminate footage from a project or change the audio level globally after recording. I hope that Adobe creates a real Visual Communicator that makes Premiere unnecessary. I would certainly buy the upgrade. Also VC needs to export Quick Time, which is the same case of Premiere 2.0. In premiere, I need to export first to a Quicktime aimation and then, open the file with Quicktime and en finally export to H.264 and AAC. It is a mistery why Adobe is so dumb. In fact, the only format the looks good in you tube is H.264. So maybe somebody will understand how the world spins finally.
