I'm starting a new thread specifically about Adobe's CS4 24pa issues. Hope this isn't a problem. I just think people should be aware that 24pa does not work as smoothly as did in previous releases.
You have to go through extra steps for 24pa projects no matter what project preset you pick. The new media browser does not preview the 24pa clips correctly they default to 29.97 even if your in the 24pa timeline preset. You must drag the clip into the Project Window then apply then click 'Interpret Footage' and check the '24pa dv pulldown' checkbox. You have to do this even if you shoot 1080 24pa P2 footage so the checkbox is misleading.
Adobe's media browser would have been great especially for P2 users who shoot 1080 24pa. Before you had to drag the clips from the video folder to the project window to preview them. Now you can click the P2 folder see thumbnails and click on a clip to see it's contents. There you can pick in and out points then drop the clip into the timeline.
Great huh? Unless you shoot 24pa. To make 24pa work correctly you must drag the clip into the project window and do the 'interpret footage' dance. Of course you drag a bunch of clips at one time and 'Interpret' them all but then so much for the timesaving 'media browser' function.
Jim said this would be fixed in Febuary (which means CS4 will work like your used to it working 4 months after you bought it). I think people should be aware of this before you upgrade or purchase it new. In fact Jim's conformation of this on DVXUSER is the on place on the internet this is mentioned.
Apperantly this was done by Adobe so they could support mutiple format footage in a single timeline. In a nutshell, people who want to mix formats don't have to 'Interpret Footage' anymore, just the people who shoot 24pa (most DVX/HVX users as well as Xl-2 people).
I have a few questions fro Jim.
If you don't work for Adobe how come can't release or even just post the 24p workflow issues Adobe changed for CS4 release.
If someone edits 24pa footage (like most people at the DVX forum do I imagine) then why not help us out. It's not in Beta, it's in wide release so why hold back info that would help us DVXusers decide if CS4 is right for us or not?
I'm not saying your holding it back to get on Adobe's good side but the FACT is Adobe has not released any workarounds or even mentioned you have to work around 24pa footage is more than a bit disconcerting. What is the reason 'can't share it'? Did you sign an agreement saying you wouldn't disclose these workflow errors unless it was an Adobe sanctioned white paper?
Why can't you post on the forum maybe not the exact 'white paper' but a DVX user summery? Would Adobe get mad at you and not send you the next beta's to review?
DVX=24p and I strongly think this something people should know about before purchasing CS4.

It'll be available on the Panasonic site before too long (hopefully no later than next week); it's not something I can share before that.
I have no reason to hide anything; I don't work for Adobe . . .
Well, I told them that this exact reaction would happen. In any case, it's only a few months, not a whole year.
