Adjusting for drop frame, with live audio sync?

This is kind of a newbie question, but how would I Adjust my project properties to keep live audio synced? I have audio from a live show recorded directly to cd that becomes off by a couple of frames from the video because of the drop frame time code. What settings do I need to adjust to keep the audio synced thoughout a 30 minute project? Thanks for all the help.

Re: Adjusting for drop frame, with live audio sync

Does anybody have any idea what would cause the audio to become out of sync exponentially? I have been tearing my hair out over this sync issue. I get the audio synced at one point and then it gets exponentially worse from that point on. Is it a frame drop issue or could it be a hertz issue? I just discovered that one of the audio streams is in 48000 and the other is in 44100. I tried rendering the 44100 up to 48000 , but that didnt make any difference. I would be eternally gratefull to anybody that could at least point me in the right direction, or tell me that trying to sync the audio is pointless. Thanks again for any help.

I suspect you are close, I had some trouble in the past with the imported audio being a different sample rate than the project settings.  If you have multiple tracks at different rates, this might complicate things.  I am not a Vegas expert by any means, perhaps others could help, or the Vegas forums at sonicfoundry:

Another option, if you are really hurting for help is the telephone help from Sonic Foundry, they charge for it, but frankly, if you need it - it's cheap. They also do Email help I think.

It could be a .1% issue. COmapre the duration of the picture and the sound and see if the difference is .1%. Basically in very rough math - 1 frame every 1000 frames. Divide 1000 by the edit rate you are working in - 24, 25, or 30. A cumulative error as you describe is a common occurence if this is not corrected. It is common with live audio coming from a film shoot at 24fps. After transfer the film gets slowed down .1% to 23.976 and is no longer in sync with audio if neither one is adjusted. I am not a Vegas Video user, so I cannot say how it is handled in that application, but look for 23.976 versus 24. The same would hold true if you were editing a film transfer to 29.97 in a 29.97 project.

good point micheal... audio from the DVX is off almost one frame everytime you hit record, thats just the way the camera works, and one frame sync issue most people cant even notice.

Try DV Film at www.dvfilm.com for their software (DV Film Maker under $100.00) You just drag the capured video into their box and it processes it into a Quick Time file and will adjust that sync problem. You can also adjust the settings for 1 frame, 2 frames, etc.
