Adjusting brightness in clip

I have a clip in my sequence that has some bright spots from lights that were set up. I pulled up my video scopes and adjusted the overall brightness of the clip and played with the contrast but there are a couple of things within the clip that still seem to be "hot". I was wondering if there was a way I could tone those things down without messing up the look of the rest of the clip. Basically the clip is an interview with a singer in a recording studio. She is wearing a green t-shirt with a white long sleeve shirt underneath. The sleeves of the white shirt seems to be hot. The other item is the keyboard in the background. The white keys look to bright. Like I said I adjusted the brightness to bring it out of illegal range just wondering if there was a way I could single out a certain something within the clip to adjust instead of the whole clip as a whole.

You might try the Color Corrector (as opposed the the Color Corrector 3-way) and use the limit effect to choose only the white sleevs and keys and then use the "white" slider to lower the brightness thus affecting only the areas you've selected.

Blaine,

Would I do that same thing you suggested if I wanted enhance a certain color within the clip and not have it affect the rest of the scene or clip? Kinda like the show CSI Miami how they have bright vibrant oranges, greens and blues in various scenes on the show.

Absolutely, go in and isolate the colors you want to enhance and then raise the saturation on them. On our movie "Hollywood Gothic" we had a bar shot with someone in the background putting up chairs. The problem was it was the same guy who was playing the boom operator in another scene happening at the same time so I used this method to change the color of his t-shirt so it looks like a different person.

Here's a tutorial on it. It's in that latter part of the tutorial under Secondary Color Correction.

It's an excellent tutorial.
