Additional Gear Recommendations

I just recently purchased a camera and was wondering for doing event/wedding/band videography, what additional hardware would you recommend (aside from another battery). The camera I have is the Sony HDR-Z5U. I only have that and a couple of MXL condensers I bought for live sound that I occasionally use when I can't get a feed from the board. Otherwise, I'm pretty much green and have nothing else (save for basic tripod).

Suggestions? I am budgeted for a certain amount, but also making it a "wishlist" of sorts. Think about if you were a 1-2 person operation and open to "bottom of the barrell" type of work for experience and additional coin. This includes PC updates for smoother editing, etc. I have some $$$ to play with get more launch-friendly.

PC: AMD64x2 3400+ (i think), 2GB RAM, internal SATAII, no external storage, 1.5GB Nvidia GForce 9600GSO, Adobe Master Collection

Thanks in advance.

Do you have a budget in mind?
My recommendations go in this order:
1. A good case
2. Sound
3. Lights
4. A stabilizing device

Sorry for the delay...was afk on vacation.

No particular budget....more of a "spend in order as I save the funds" type of thing.

Good case is self-explanatory....but when you're talking about sound & lights...what pieces specifically?

I also have a JTL 500w (ea) x3 light set up.

Sound wise I would say that you could really benifit from a couple of things:
- A wireless kit - I reccommend the Senn G2/G3s if you want 1 lav or my favorite the Audio-Technica Dual Channel Kits if you want to use 2 lavs or a lav & a handheld

- A good shotgun, I like the rode ntg-2 or the ntg-3

The wireless kit is great for interviews & the to put on the groom and officiant at the wedding ceremony. The shotgun will vastly outperform the onboard mic on your camera so that when you can't pin a lav you can still get decent audio.

Lighting, I don't know as much about this but I have had success with the lpmicros for run & gun style, especially during receptions and post-concert sound bytes. For more set-up interview type stuff I have used a kit similar to this.

That is just off the top of my head, I hope it helps.
