adding or removing lights from wide shot to medium to close up

Hi,

When you have a wide shot and you have set up your lights so that the shot look perfect, and then when you do a medium shot would DPs add a light or remove a light from the same lighting setup of the wide shot in order to make that medium shot look good too?

If so, how would adding a light or removing a light from the first lighting setup make the next shot look better?

And would you do that when you go from a medium shot to a close up?

Thanks for your help.

Adding and removing entire lights is a big deal, I wouldn't go that far. A little diffusion or moving a light works. That's best because sometimes you want to get something like a more detailed shadow or softer fill on a face, but in the wide you can't do that because you have an entire scene to light. So on the close up you change your lights a little to make the flaws look better.
