read something somewhere that adding grain in post (phony grain- im aware real film grain is different), can be problematic in that in asking the...er rendering codec(? is that the term?) to render the tons of little grain/noise bits it has lots of data to contend with, so it introduces video artifacts and effects image quality negatively on the whole. granted ill be making my first feature on the dv100a, standard def, and will likely be adding some blur too, so it aint gonna look movie theatre quality anyway, but. does anyone know anything about this or have any thoughts? also-- is the standard grain effect in vegas or any other nle any different from the noise effect that most nles have? I wouldn't be surprised to hear that they are actually the same thing or just slight variants of the same thing. sorry for the multiple question...im just collecting lil nuggets of info right now on post-graining stuff, so any thoughts on the whole subject would be appreciated.. not like ive made a movie worth putting on dvd or anything yet..
