Adding Freeze Frames

I know that if you turn the loop switch off for an event you can drag to add freeze frames at the end of an event (as long as it is also the end of the media file). Is there an easy way to add a freeze frame to the beginning or end of an event otherwise? Thus far I have been saving the last (or first) frame of the event that I want to be the freeze frame as a jpeg or png file, then pasting it into the timeline where I want the freeze frames, but I am thinking there must be an easier way in Vegas??

Re: Adding Freeze Frames

You could also add a velocity envelope, and drop the velocity to zero at that point. It will hold that frame for the remaning event duration.

Though, watch the curve. At default, the Velocity Envelope will automatically add a curve so that the footage slows down before it stops. It you want a sudden freeze-frame, you'll have to adjust the curve.

Re: Adding Freeze Frames

Great suggestions. As with all things in Vegas, there are several ways.

Here's another:

Find the frame you want to freeze. Click on the disk icon above the preview window to extract a still image from your timeline. Place that still image on the timeline and drag it to the proper duration.

Just another method.

Can I add the velocity envelope to the first frame of an event, then extend the freeze frame to the left as well?

Re: Adding Freeze Frames

You can adjust the velocity envelope for a some duration and than bring it back up. However, This will get the timecode out of sync with the rest of the event past the first velocity envelope change. For some people it doesn't matter but I find it annoying if the frame offsets don't agree with timecode offset in the original media.

I'd probably split the event into three, set the middle one to zero velocity, and trim the adjacent event on the right so that it starts at the same frame as the 'freeze'. Then group the three events so that they move together.
