adding faux depth to an old photo

This was discussed on dvxuser a while back, but i can't locate the thread (don't even remember what forum it was in) but the user was asking how to duplicate the effect sometimes used on the History Channel where a person/ object is cropped out of a photograph, enlarged, and placed back in the photo with subtle motion in one direction do give the illusion of depth or 3D to the photo. if someone knows the thread i'm talking about awesome, but i'm actually just looking for an example of this effect to show a client. (i'm pretty sure there was an example in the thread, although it could be a dead link now.) thanks!

I know what you mean, that sounds like after effects job, basically you roto out the person then use a clean background plate and place them in 3d space, then when you move your AE camera you can get a bit of depth to the image, its used alot as in motion graphics works, adds a bit of jazz to certain shots.

So look in the After effects section.

I just did a simple one for something to do. It's probably best done in AE.
