Hi folks;

Quick question:

Is there a way to automatically add a couple of seconds of black video in front of every clip in the timeline?

I need to do this, because I need to keep my clips seperated when I send to the studio. Right now, I have to MANUALLY add the black video in front of each one myslef - BIG PAIN!

thanks!

You don't say what version of Premiere you are using, but in Premiere Pro there are several ways of doing it and one way is to add Black Video once and then just copy and paste it.

You can also add Black Video from the Source Monitor and Insert (or Overlay) it to the Timeline. If the video already is in place this solution works best.

But no solution works automatically, you have to do it your self by using some keyboard shortcuts. :)

I am using Premiere Pro, and I've been doing it as you've mentioned... basically copy and paste into timeline, I'm hoping to find some automatic way to leave 2 sec of black video in front of the clips.

I may have 35 or 40 clips - and it's a BIG PAIN to have to do this 40 times!! Is there a way to LEAVE 2 secs of space in the timeline INSTEAD of copying and pasting black video?

-thanks,

You said it! Just leave 2 secs of space in the timeline and it will appear as black video!

maybe I'm not clear...

leaving space in front of a clip is NOT AN ISSUE. The question is - is there a way to AUTOMATICALLY do this with 40 clips in your timeline?

Using the "Move" tool will assist in spacing multiple clips easily. I could space out 50 clips using the move tool in about 2 minutes. You may be making this more complicated than it needs to be.
The "automate to timeline" feature is handy for laying down multiple clips to the timeline but unfortunately it doesn't allow you to add space between clips, only transistions and overlap.

The other option is to automate to timeline all your clips with 0 overlap,
Then on the second track add multiple clips of black and "Insert the clips between each clip by selecting the black clip with the "selection" tool then holding the Ctrl key down to "Insert" them between clips. That will force everything to move instead of overlapping.
My first suggestion is easier though..

NO

...but the suggestions above are good for the future...

BTW : the time you wasted on this already , it could have been done. (Would take me about 2 minutes max.)

Maybe I misunderstood. Do you already have the clips laid down on the time line and you just need to add 2 seconds of black in between each one? If so, then this can be done very easily. Just copy the black video, page down to the end of a clip, then cntl V to paste. Then just repeat page down and and cntl V.

But Shooter is right. In the time it took to discuss this, you could have been long done.

No, you can not do it automatically.

But if you Insert the 2 sek's of Black Video from the Source Monitor it will be done in a second or two. Just use the comma-key/Page Up/Page Down on your keyboard and make sure that the right track/s are targeted. Thats all you have to do.

hehe... thanks for pointing the obvious... that I could have done this in less time than posting!

but that's not the point... there's reason to my madness... this is not a one time problem for me... I continously have to do this every wee, as I send in stuff.

Sirius_ I think the "move" tool option you are talking about might work... I' will try to see what the options are to place spaces between the clips on each clip BEFORE moving to the timeline... hopefully that'll work.

All the other solutions pointed.... that is what I do now... manually place (copy and paste) a 2 sec black video between each clip.

I do not know your workflow but heres what I might do because I do most of my editing from the source Window with keyboard shortcuts for IN / Out Points and Insert / Overlay.

I would put a 2 second black video in the Source Monitor as well as the clips I was going to use. Every time I wanted the '2 sec black clip' I would use the keyboard shortcut ("," or ".")
