I know you guys aren't fond of the Sony wireless units, but frankly I love mine! I couldn't afford a new Sennheiser Evolution G2 that you like so well so I purchased a used Sony wireless unit for a little less. The receiver, WRR-810A, is referred to as a UHF synthesized tuner that stores seven groups of selectable wireless channels. Quoting from the manual "The wireless channel groups other than group 00 are designed so that you can use all wireless channels of any one group simultaneously within the same UHF wireless microphone system without causing intermodulation."
The transmitter, WRT-820A, requires that you select a group and then a channel from within the group.
I would assume that there is no reason that I couldn't purchase another used WRT-820A xmtr and then set it to the same group but a different channel within the group. In other words, does this receiver support mulitiple transmitters??
I understand that I wouldn't be able to a separate volume control for each mic, but still it would be great in interview situations just to be able to go completely wireless! I know you have a fairly low opinion of Sony wireless and it's the only wireless I've ever used, but honestly, it really is very very good. I've never had a problem with any sort of interference, the signal has always been strong and consistant, the sound is great (and that's using the Sony mic... I'm still saving up for the Countryman that everyone raves about). The only complaint I have, if you could call it that, is that the mic is a bit too sensitive.... It is rather omnidirectional and it tends to pick up everything... you can hear birds in the distance etc.. Voices sound very clear and natural when the the microphone is placed about mid-chest.
Frankly, it's hard to imagine that the G2 could be all that much better and if I could just add a second transmitter rather than having to save up for a second wireless setup, a least for a short term solution, I would be very happy.
Is anyone familiar with this Sony receiver? Is is practical to add a second transmitter and maybe even a third transmitter? Is the Sennheiser G2 really that much better or is my Sony just as good? Again, I just don't hear a lot of room for imrovement.... what am I missing?
