Adding a new Hard Drive into the comp

Hello,

I was thinking about purchasing the base model quadro G5 that comes with a 250 gb HD. I wanted to add another 250gb Hd so that I can run a raid but that option is not available. I would have to buy two 500gb drives...thats way too much.

So I'm wondering since the Hd is a Sata - 7200 rpm can't I add my own drive that I'd buy from newegg into the comp??

My only hurdle is that in order to do a raid setup don't you need the drives to be the 1) the same capacity 2) from the same maker?

The guy from the apple store siad he couldn't reveal who makes thier drives...

Has anyone purchased a G5 and installed thier own HD? If possible which brand should I get?

I will share some possible answers for you, but first I need to know something:

Why do you want RAID? And what kind of RAID (striped, mirrored)?

I know at least the eMac uses Maxtor.

I don't know much about RAID arrays, so I couldn't help you there, however I CAN say that I've found Hitachi drives to be the most reliable and coolest running. I have 2 external firewire drives at the moment, one Hitachi and the other Maxtor. When they've both been on for an hour or so, the Maxtor is quite alot hotter than the Hitachi. In addition, the Hitachi has a less overhead read/write time than other drives in my experience.
