Hi Everyone. I'm interested in creating a halo around light sources, similar to an effect in Rob Zombie's Lords of Salem. 8666_18_large.jpg8666_20_large.jpg8666_12_large.jpg Does anyone have an idea about how to accomplish this effect? Thanks!

The best way would be to use a highlight diffusion filter in front of the lens, like Tiffen's Pro Mist or fog filters.

In post, you can try pushing up the highlights in a luma curve. details vary depending on the software you use.

Create a second video layer.

Over expose the lights a bit , crush the gamma and shadows...and add a blur to expand the light outward.

Now...Play with the Opacity Blend Modes. eg Screen

Thanks Shooter. Good advice. It worked pretty well. It would be tough to apply to some shots in my short film but for the 2 or 3 shots that I tried, it looked pretty good.

There is a lot of trial and error involved when combining FX, Blends, Opacity, CC/grade and Compositing.

Its almost infinite...so good luck.
