adding a drive

Hey,
I'm adding a seagate 300 gb external firewire drive. So far nothing but a headache, it's slow, freezes up my system etc....I bought it for backup of a film I'm doing in case of an emergency. Maybe I didn't do something right like when your formatting it, is it supposed to be 'journled' or not etc....Thanks for any help.
 
I've got a Seagate 300GB also...mine hasn't been quite the pain that you're describing, but the fact that it falls asleep every couple minutes forced me to put it on the shelf as a backup drive exclusively.

As far as cheap drives go, I've been having good luck with WD.
 
I just got 2 mac pro and i want to had internal hard drives to both of them(250g drives). which one should i buy?? And i also need one 250g for a G5 (not intel).
