add edits in premiere cs6

The way I was able to perform add edits in Final Cut was to highlight a clip or clips and perform the keyboard shortcut to split the clip where ever the playhead was sitting. On Premiere it's almost the same way except I have to now worry about which tracks are enabled in order to do this. Is there a way around this? So i don't have to worry about which tracks need to be enabled in order to perform the cut... I know there's the add edit to all tracks, but that doesn't help me out when I want to only split clips on track 3 and 4 and leave 1 and 2 alone.

Thanks in advance.

Ctrl K

Shift CTrl K

Set up track targeting short cut keys because it is fundamental to editing in Premiere.

I use 1 to 8 for video Tracks and Shift 1 to Shift 8 for audio tracks (toggles on/off).

in combination with...

9 = All Video ON, Shift 9 = All Video Off

I rarely use Add Edit but use the keys above for all other trim editing. I use Edit to Playhead mostly.
