Adaption?

Ok guys, here's the question. I'm writing a short based on an ancient myth. Should I list it as an adaption and if so what should I credit as the source material. The author is unkown of course.

Depends. Take JFK. True event, based on books regarding the subject. You could always write: "Based on the myth: The Vanishing Hitchhiker". Unless it is based on a specific source, it's in your hands. There is something interesting when "Based on the myth, etc, etc" comes up on screen.

If it's an ancient myth, then it's in the public domain, right? I would think it would be unneccessary to credit the "source", unless you just wanted to make it clear that this is a retelling of that myth.

If you do, in fact, want people to KNOW that it is a visual version of the myth, then perhaps you could title the script with the common title of the myth. Of course, you can always put a "sub-title" on the script that says , "Based on..." as romeospade indicated.
