I was surprised he didn't mention anything about the 12 bit DSP. I thought that was supposed to be a big deal...

Peter, I was a bit surprised as well. I would think that if the 12 bit DSP was a drastic improvement, Adam would have mentioned it. From what I gathered from the review, the picture quality is about the same, just more room for tweaking in camera.

Interesting you should bring that up... I thought the same thing and sent a message to Adam via his website. (Just as a general question, hoping he would address it on his DVX100 FAQ.) He responded with this:

There's nothing obvious one can point to in my test images or on my 'scopes and say, "see, it's 12 bit DSP processing!", but if it is 12 bit that would contribute to the high quality of the imaging in the extended dynamic range of the DVX100A.

However without a side-by-side test with identically-configured 10-bit and 12-bit DVX100s, it's almost impossible to call out any particular aspect of the pix proving 12-bitness.

Thanks Clayton, I was going to email Adam as well about the same issue but I will now "forget about it". The 12 bit DSP feature and the slow shutter speeds were the biggest improvements for me but from Adam's review, I just cannot justify upgrading the very capable DVX100 that I already have.

yeah.. I would go with whatever Adam says about the new camera. He is very highly regarded in the industry and knows his ****.

I just purchased a DVX100, it got mailed to me three days ago. Would it be a wise idea to sell it and purchase an 'A' if I really have no rush for production?

Next week we should know what the DVX100A sells for. At that time you could make a more informed decision...
