Acupuncture needles in the legs

In my new short film, I have a character that will be lying on a bed with acupuncture needles in her legs. What is the best way to go about doing this on a modest budget?

I've been recommended to use modeling wax and cover it with the skin tone of the actress, and I have purchased real acupuncture needles that could be slightly pressed in.

Any other recommendations or suggestions on a good way to do this that looks real and believable?

If your actor isn't freaked out by needles and you can get a trained acupuncturist to help, just do it for real?

Fake flesh is notoriously difficult to do on no money :(

LOL, remind me not to audition for any of your roles. EEK! Needles!!!!!!!!

Yah, I'd go with Clang's suggestion. Real will look the best. Acupuncture is weird, but doesn't really hurt.
