Actors with eyes that pop recently

The other day my girlfriend asked me
"Have you noticed in movies and TV shows within the last five to tens years that actors have eyes that really pop and are brilliantly colored, why is that?"

She's right. I noticed it too but never consciously thought about it. Especially, but not always, younger actors. I don't know if it's because digital cameras make things pop more or because of the color grading or maybe they're all wearing colored contacts? Maybe casting directors are just going after people with more dynamic eyes than before. I don't really know.

Has anyone else noticed this?

I think this is more of a function of were seeing everything shot in 4K-8K these days and recently lighting styles seem to have changed a bit with RGB lights, combined with post tools are just getting better and more efficient. Those eyes have always been there but they weren't always photographed with technology that highlighted them so well. I conferenced called God and Mother Nature and they both concur that they have not changed the blueprints on the humans coming off of the production line, no change in eye pigmentation ;-)

I've noticed some ridiculously vibrant irises, especially in commercials. I get the feeling they are using colored contacts.

Probably a combination of a lot of things including lot's of extreme close-ups, lighting and post manipulation. Lots of "super natural" narrative shows and the characters eyes are very important to show their "state"(is their vampire side coming out, are they changing into their werewolf state, etc.).
