Actors -- make your OWN film

I don't consider myself an actor, but I wouldn't mind playing minor or cameo roles in the films I plan to make.

I 100% agree with chapelgrovefilms on actors producing their own films. It's too competitive out there not to. If you're serious about acting you have to invest in your dream.

I also recommend you hire a good producer for your project. A good producer can save you a ton of money, and make your overall film look like it cost far more than it did.

We're almost complete on a project that was actor-parent-funded. We cast a teenager who is SAG and has done tons of commercial and TV work, but just can't land any major roles. Her parents funded a $50K short "calling card" project. We're just wrapping up coloring at a local lab. Shot on the RED in 4K with a professional crew. They didn't skimp on anything, in fact, they asked us to spend more so we could finish it professionally and have it mastered professionally as well! Nothing but a great experience. They have opinions, but leave the final decision up to the "professionals" to deliver what their after.

So, by all means, the actor-funded film approach can work very smoothly.
