Actor's Agents/Assistants/Escorts on set?

When casting an actor/actress especially for an indie film, what's the general policy as it relates to having agents/assistants/escorts on set?

Are you for the idea? Against the idea? How does this normally work with shoots?

That's an easy one. Absolutely nobody allowed on set. However, you can implement this on the people you are paying little to, but those being paid much more can do what they like. You won't get away with it, and for some who you really need, you have to bite your lip.

Do you remember the old British Theatre star Danny LaRue? Very famous in his time, and he had a dog. Plenty of theatre had a no dogs in the dressing room rule. His response was "No Dog, No Danny" and every turned a blind eye.
So in the ideal world, you set the rules, but also probably have to break them!

I'd allow them one (agent/escort/entourage) as long as that person stayed out of the way and didn't speak to them when we are actively filming (they could do what they want when we are on break). If they didn't like that rule I'd cast somebody else. That being said, is it the "star" that allowed you to secure funding? Then different rules apply. It's like sports. The rules are different for the star quarterback and the 3rd string tackle. That's just reality.
