Achromat Vs. Macro

An achromatic lens IS a macro (only color corrected!)
Allows CU (hence focusing on the GG at close range) WITHOUT the well known distortion and chromatic aberrations (more visible on the sides, but starting from the center of the image!) Here:

Less than that, you get what you pay for.
The required power (+5 or +"whatnot") depends on your camcorder's zoom/minimum focus range/distance to GG and size of the GG (some contraptions go for 18/24 frame to allow Zeiss and other cine lenses; others shoot for 24/36 for SLR lenses). Your camera may be able to focus on an 18/24 or no. Test with a piece of paper for frame size before you buy/build. Use a cheap CU lens to find out the required power (+what) and then buy the real thing to shoot! (same power)

Uh....okay.....

Dan, I think I got *some* of that........

Could you dumb it down for a newbie?? I have a DVX100a and am deciding between 2 +10 Macro's or a +5 Achromat.......

Which would YOU (:() prefer?? You have WAAAAAY more experience than me when it comes to optics.......

That offended you?? Sorry, I just have a lot of respect for you and hear the products you make are fantastic, I am actually planning on buying the MPIC after a conversation with Steev Dinkins but I heard it's not released yet. And is it really $8000 or is it $2000??

No of fence taken man... (lol) but when is too... "in your face"... is... hmm...
And when one hears the same thing one too many times, one’s mind is influenced and has a negative impact on human relations, detrimental to all. (isolation that is) ‘nugh!
I know you like "ze darn thing". Price will change, stand by (I just don’t want any orders right now..)
To answer your Q : I don't know. The answer is subject to tooo many variables!
1.Where do you want to mount the GG (distance to lens?)
2What kind of GG? (how good of a diffusion provides to avoid vigneting, is it a Fresnel screen?)
3. The answer is in my previous post: take a cheap set of macros (+!, +2, +4 and +10) play with them AND the GG you want to use. When you are happy with everything, replace the value of the cheapo with the real thing from Century. This is what I have done (for fun) to see what is possible using just a GG. Results subject to taste, budget, level of acceptance and finished image screen size intended, so don’t ask. Some may like it, some may not! I used the cheapo in front of the SLR lens for an ECU, BUT; as long as you have the choice to use it or no, is OK. For an ECU, it could pass as "artistic reasons" and nobody can argue with that, but for a "normal image" to get chromatic sides is not OK.
I saw (again) two days ago footage from GS200+MPIC on a 6?-7?ft screen, this time in a post production house (hint: best projector money can buy) I am happy with the image. I don't think I will go for HD/HDV but rather stick with the GS200 (as incredible as it may sound to some) or... get a DVcam (better colors!) Resolution... is there on DV but so RARELY SEEN ALL OF IT!!!!! I saw (by comparison) HD (F900), 35mm and HDV footage Color compression is higher (in HDV) to favor the higher resolution and “squeeze it all” on DV tape. This was the post guys’ opinions not mine. (No comments on memory, hard drives and other direct transfers)
