Achieving better scene continuity?

OK, a couple of micro-budget rookie questions:

We're putting together a four chapter homage to the classic forties cliffhangers, which is being filmed with a DVX-100A. Many of our "interior" shots are done in front of a greenscreen with vintage laboratory background plates. Due to space and lighting restrictions, most all the shots have the actors side by side. In order to break things up a bit, I tried cutting in close-up one shots along with longer two shots showing both actors. As I edit together the first few sequences, I notice some continuity glitches between the one and two shots, i.e., actors hands in different positions, facing slightly different direction, etc. A couple of these are so rough, I actually added in some Magic Bullett Misfire to resemble bad spots on old film. Hey, it's retro! When shooting subsequent chapters, how can I better smooth the continuty while still mixing up shots to give the scenes a bit more interest? Over the shoulder shots, etc.?

Also, when composing future shots, both in front of the screen and on location, how can I best determine how closely together to group the actors? I have them spaced more openly in front of the greenscreen, so as to give the impression of a large, open space as well as show some of the cool elements in the background plates.

Any help is much appreciated.
