Hi,
i just bought an Oktava Mk-012.
I was wondering about the accessories i would need.

INDOOR SHOOTING
I could buy :
- the shockmount SSM1 for 42$
- Pole stand (ANY GOOD SUGGESTIONS?)
Indoors, some people suggest to buy a Rycote BBG, is it necessary ?

OUTDOOR SHOOTING
A shotgun would be better, but Can i still have great audio with the oktava ?
I would buy :
- Rycote BBG
- Rycote windjammer.

Thats about it for now.
Thank you in advance,

Since I was on a limited budget, I did not get any sort of 'protection' for my Oktava, other than very small 'foam' covers. If I move the mic, depending, I can hear wind noise even if I'm indoors. So, if you have the money, some sort of 'better' protection would benefit.

Again because of my budget, I bought a 'light' but essentially hand made boom. It is fine. But if you have the money, there are 'better'. Here better would be good tighteners that don't wear out, or get stuck, or have 'noise' when wiggled.

As others have noted, and I have experienced, the Oktava can 'pickup' very slight handling noise. So, a reasonably good shock mount, and a very steady hand is required.

Again because of my budget I bought off brands, and then learned the 'zen' of boom handling, to the extent of my needs.

If you work with a group, and due to no-budget politics, you have to have someone else use the boom, make sure they are very aware of these issues. I had an occasion were such was the case and the 'politically acceptable' candidate had hand tremors... that and other issues, lead me to part company with the group...

The infamous 012 is very susceptible to handling noise and even the slightest wind turbulence ... a little less so with the 'Dorcey' type mod. The preferred fish pole mount for me and most folks is the Rycote Invision. For stand mounted applications, I have a pair of Shure AM-53m iso mounts which are low profile and work OK. I use cheapo (Olsen) Windtech teardrop foam windscreens or the WindTech US-2 Ultra series two-stage foam screen when the small one is not adequate. I wouldn't recommend the 012 for outdoor use at all.

You can get great audio with any decent mic that you get close enough and that is pointed correctly.
Outdoors you are often going to be in a wider shot and that makes anything shorter than a shotgun problematic.
