Accessaries for 8060, need some opinions.

Hey guys,

So my money has been put away and I'm ready to upgrade. I've decided I am going to get the MKH 8060. I am however going to wait for the filter module, for now I can cut at my mixer.

Though this means new accessaries. I thought I could get some suggestions.

The Rycote Shock Mount I was thinking to get. Idea's?

Right now I am using the Rode Blimp for wind protection, but the mic being 5" shorter than the 416, I was thinking of using something new. I see a lot of guys using these softies. How well do they work? Would you suggest something else more suited for this mic? They are relatively inexpensive, lighter, and quicker on the fly. If they can handle moderate wind then I would like to go this route.

Any other idea's that you may want to bring up or new equipment out there please feel free to share.

Thanks,

Mitch

IMO - save up for the full Rycote windshield kit. Looks like they have one especially for the MKH8060 and alternates given added accessories (assuming the low cut/pad filter):

Softies will work but with the back end exposed not a sure thing given high wind. The full windshield (zep/fuzzy) is fantastic, gives you peace of mind to work in rough conditions.

Dano! I appreciate your comments. One option is to just use the rode blimp I guess. I would have thought it to be too big but I think I may be able to adjust where the mount sits on it.

This is the B&H suggested wind protection for the 8060, rycote S-series. At $270.00 this is very cheap, but I wonder how effective it is.

I heard the S-Series work well and easier to open up, switch to lesser wind protection (foam) if moving indoors (or vice versa I guess). I've also heard mention that the Rycote Miniscreen w/ Miniscreen Windjammer is comparable (but cheaper) than the Softie.

I've had too many situations using a Softie in mild conditions that changed suddenly to need a zep/fuzzy. I usually opt now for the zeppelin and if lighter conditions keep the fuzzy off until needed.

Please do let us know how the 8060 works out for you, have heard some feedback but not enough.
