I came on this website about a month ago and just tried to say hello, I am new, I am looking forward to learning from you all and I am excited about my camera purchase and got ripped apart. I am surprised this is the only static you got to be honest. I am new to this entire industry but it does seem to have a different culture- as if everyone is out there to screw them over in every way possible and I really don't understand why. I think some of it comes from the fact that their equipment costs so much money and within a year is worth 1/10 what they paid for it. I think a lot pf people keep trying to get people to work for free. I think that the business is cut throat and there is a bit of eat or be eaten going on. But in any case - I don't see the same exact "flavor" on the other sites I am going to... so I try to just not get to overwhelmed by it all.
That being said - when I read your post I was thinking to myself - "yeah right, I am not going to do that", maybe someone will, who knows... but I don't see why peoples minds go sinister, which means left handed by the way, right from the start.
Good luck with your project, my guess is that MAYBE looking for some film school kids might work for you. The guys on this site, once you get to know them and look past the... whatever this is called, negativity maybe - they have a lot to offer AND are fun to talk to as well. I wouldn't say I've made any real friends yet- but I hope to... not just so I get something out of it, but I want to make some new friends in this crazy business just to talk shop, play with gear, etc etc.
