Academy Award Nominaaa....yawn...

Wall-E was excelent. Loved every minute of it. Unfortunatelly, living here limits my chances of seeing the nominated films. Funnily enough, the only ones I've seen are The Dark Knight and Tropic Thunder, both for best supporting actor, as well as Wall-E (blockbuster films get preferred space at the ONLY thatre here with a respectable projection screen with decent audio). Robert Downey was very, very impressive in the role. Ben Stiller was a big surprise with this film, since it was his directional debut (am I correct?). A spoof Movie with a very "indie" feel to it.

From the nominated films, the one's I'm really curious to see are Doubt (trailer shows excelent performance from both leads), Slumdog (its a very interesting premise) and The Reader. Milk doens't seem that interesting plot wise ( really like Sean Penn, though. His role was hilarious on that film about a Hollywood producer starring Robert De Niro- forgot the name).

And someone talked about the Charlie Kaufman directed and written film. I'm very, very curious about that one. Will definitely get it on DVD/ Blu-ray, whichever comes out first over here

some cool trivia:

-Robert Downey, Jr is the second person to be nominated for a performance in blackface

-First time ever both Golden Globe winning actresses weren't even nominated.
-For the 5th year in a row the Golden Globe winning song wasn't even nominated.
-Stephen Daldry has been nominated for Best Director for all 3 of his movies.
-Werner Herzog's first nomination (!).
