AC-3 problem?

I’ve always thought my audio sounded very flat and quit after rendering as an AC-3 file to put into DVDA2, but thought maybe that’s just the nature of the beast. Well, I’ve noticed several people commenting on the same thing. So if I don’t need surround, just stereo, and want to go through DVDA2 to finalize my project, what should I render the audio as? Thanks.

Will do. Do I just go to the sony website to update? Is there another format that works well with DVDA2?

Updates are free to download -- go to Help > Sony on the Web > Latest Updates.

If you don't export as MPEG-2 for DVD Achitect and AC-3, DVD Architect will convert it to that format anyway. Rendering that way from Vegas is a big time saver, especially if you burn a disc, find a mistake in the menu, and then go back to change it.

Try rendering with the Stereo DVD template under AC-3.

Ok. I did the update and its doing the exact same thing. The audio sounds great before I render and then after I render(AC-3 stereo, all settings are at stereo) and put it into DVDA2 (stereo preset) its like a quarter of the original volume. In the time line window in DVDA2 the audio wave (I don’t know what to call it) is so small. The only thing that changed from the update that I can see is the little semble next to my audio files now look all the same. I used to get a cool little picture representing the AC-3 audio files now its just a box with 3 little dots in it. This problem is getting very annoying. I tried rendering as a wave file and then put it into DVDA2 and it worked perfectly. What’s the deal?
Thanks

What's a "semble"?

It sounds like you may have de-installed your AC-3 encoder somehow, and now Windows isn't recognizing the file format. Try removing and re-installing DVD Architect.

The little icon next to my AC-3 files. I don't know what its called. I have a big project in the works. This is probably a long shot but I downloaded the update through a wireless card that has a very weak signal. Is it possible that it didn’t all transfer correctly. I can’t risk losing anything.

Ok i downloaded it again and the icon is back but there is no change in the sound. Am i missing somthing with the AC-3 preset.

Whats the deal! I called tech support and they told me to do a clean reinstall and it would work. Well no good. Does anyone have any suggestions. Tech support has no clue. This is very anoying and im getting very desperate.

That's all I can think of to do. It's never happened to me before.

Check your sound card drivers. Probably won't help, but it's something to consider. It certainly can't hurt.

Worst case, just use the .wav file like you said.

I already did an update on my soundcard drivers(one of there suggestions) did no good. Aside from the surround sound and the file size, is there going to be a Difference in sound quality or playablity? In your preview window in DVDA2, is your audio look like it does in vegas? Like i said befor, mine is like almost a flat line.

Ill give it a try. This must have somthing to deal with the configuration of my pc. I have no other explanation and neither does anyone else.

So is there any disadvantages to a .wav file other than no surround and a larger file size. I mean it sounds the same to me. Thanks for all of the suggestions thus far David.

If you use a .wav file, DVDA will convert it to AC-3. The disadvantage is that it will take longer to prepare the DVD. But there shouldn't be any sound quality issues.

I wonder if you can export a 5.1 track in WM9 format and then have DVDA convert it to a 5.1 DVD. I haven't tried.

In the optimize DVD menu, you have the choice between AC-3 or PCM stereo. When i render as .wav in vegas, and then choose PCM stereo as my project audio format in the optimize DVD menu in DVDA2, it sounds normal on the DVD. But no surround and a bigger file to fit on the DVD.
