Abuse of the Dvx100a

Thanks Pookie...For some reason windows media player won't play the damned file, maybe I missing a codec?

Nevermind!!! Right click save as and it all goes away!:lipsrseal

People do stupid things, and generally I don't like them very much.

Anyone who thinks making a movie is about which camera he buys deserves what he gets. Anybody who treats a 3500 piece of equipment like a disposable camera by dangling it out a car window has more money than brains.

Pookie: we don't all want the HVX and we don't all buy into the hype (in the general sense, not picking on the HVX specifically). If somebody dropped an HVX at my door I'd sell it to buy more lights, some c-stands, a new computer and more books and videos.

Third day as a proud DVX owner, I was hired to do a motorcyle tour group promo shoot. I had the camera hand held, three inches off the road travelling up a winding mountain road with g forces so extreme I was limp by the end of the shoot. But I got some deadly low angle shots that between the g force and the wind buffeting, I never thought or dreamed would actually turn out. I had no insurance on the camera, but I remember thinking " This is my chance to show what I can do so hang the risks.... All this talk just brought those memories back.

.... ummm, I can't help thinking - WHO CARES? If someone has the money, they can buy whatever they want. If someone had the money they could buy a varicam and leave it on the shelf, or hang it out of a car window. That is their choice, and no one is forcing you to buy a piece of gear that is more then what you need. So what somone is abusing the camera that they spent their money on.

Good point. You can do whatever you want with your gear. I am just bothered by people who think the right gear (be it a camera, a car, a house, a trophy wife) will solve their problems or make them happy. It's not what you have, but rather what you do with it that matters (even if it means hanging it precariously off of a motorcycle, inches from the ground :) ).

Once again. Video guys talk about gear & film guys talk about images. I live in a town where everyone was a sports car. How many really go 110 on the highway ? Blue hairs or hockey moms'. Not so much. But it helps the companies that produce the cars make better cars for those of us who do go 110 on the highway.

I say let the unwashed masses buy Pannys, it just helps the company & gives us better gear in the future.

Make movies, shorts, Music Vids, anything ... Just shoot something. Anyone can buy a piano, but who can play ?

Hands up who's done the dodgiest sh*t with their camera?

I've leaned a long way out of a helicopter window with no seatbelt on and only a small latch holding the door closed.

Scrambled down steep mountainbike tracks at top speed, jumping over ditches with a pack on and the DVX only inches above the ground... with the viewfinder out

Stood in a river with the rain pouring down and getting splashed from all directions while pathetically trying to protect the camera from the elements with my hands and jersey.

Can I afford to break my camera? No. No way. It'd be much worse than losing a son! My camera's still in top condition though so I guess I've got away with it all so far...

I shot rhino from about ten feet away, outside of an armored suv. But I would call that abusing me more than the camera.
