i've heard good things about gitzo boompole. the carbon fiber one is $189.95. the aluminum one is $132.95. is it worth it to spend the extra $57? this is for a 90 minute film.

also, i still need to get a ktek kssm shockmount, but b&h is out of stock. who else carries it?

thanks for your help. if you have any suggestions or changes you think i should make, plese let me know.

Trew Audio for the KSSM and probably the boompole too. I have that carbon fiber boom pole and it's pretty good; I believe that the reasons you want to go for carbon fiber is a)it's lighter, and b) sound transmission is less severe through carbon fiber so accidentally knocking on the pole won't introduce handling sound.

The weight alone is worth the extra cash. When you're handling the boom for long takes you'll understand :)

I would spend the extra cash and buy carbon fiber. I have never worked with a soundman using an aluminum pole. Boom mics can be so sensitive. The cable lightly tapping on the pole can be a problem - can't imagine metal being good. I'll ask my top soundman that question and report back.

When I buy locally, this orgazinzation is solid for gear, although not the cheapest.

Some great prices and a good select of gear can be found at :
http://www.mediasupplystore.com/ Just call the guys at Custom Supply to see if they have the stuff. They have much more than the website suggests.

Good luck with your project.
