About to go on my first audio equipment splurge

Hans,

I think you probably got the right stuff for where you are. If you are not going to have an experience sound person the last thing you want is a lot of complicated equipment. The RVMP is an excellent investment for DSLR work. You also use it on a boom (you are not going to get distortion using unbalanced lines) and you can have the recorder on the boom op so you won't have long runs.

Ideally you would run an out from the recorder to the camera, but depending on the situation you might be able to get away with the on board mic.

You can use a dumb slate. It's funny when people talk about smart slates and "old school" in the same sentance. Dumb slate is old school and worked for all films up till fairly recently and is still used so it should be fine. But you have advantages over just using the dumb slate. You can set the time and date on your camera and your recorder so you can always identify which takes go together and you can record audio on your camera so someone can "phase" the audio from your recorder into sync. That will get you to a few milliseconds and that is as close as you ever need to get.

Thanks for the responses. I'm going to order some cables and give the RVMP a try.

Any audio boom polls and shock absorber you guys recommend for value buys?
