Some lovely student from Sweden contacted me for his project.
1. What do you think are coming trends in motion graphics design?
3D is becoming more and more integrated into motion graphics work and is expected as a skill of many freelance motion designers. In saying this, a multiple skill set is a new trend where before a single specialist skill was OK. Also the quality bar is constantly being lifted which makes the trend of photo real motion design more popular, not in a completely real way sometimes, but blending very nicely (see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EoHl_aTWFU4). The idea of developing stereoscopic motion graphics that can be interactive is a great trend that interests me also (see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxsWZb12Fq0)
2. Which qualities do you think a motion graphics designer will possess in the future?
As budgets change and broadcast formats change clients are always looking for adaptive and well versed designers who are great at communicating the idea and designing it to match the output. The main quality that will always be looked for in years to come is customer service. You can always work on your skills. In the future motion designers should also be wearing these (http://www.sneakerfreaker.com/newsflash/Marty-Mcfly-Nikes-Become-A-Reality/?source=nl)
3. Can you see any new/other areas where you can apply motion graphic?
Interactive safety on public transport and transport in general. really loud clear motion design projected onto your environment when an emergency occurs to help your escape. In schools as learning installations, once again incorporating projection and interactivity. I can see industrial design using motion design in the future in chairs etc for both artistic and usability based ideas.
4. How do you think the motion graphic industry will look like in 5 years or more?
With so much technology changing constantly I can see the industry being flooded with entry level designers and a large gap between people who have kept on top of the curve and those that have not (see videocopilot and search that on youtube to see how many people just take that as the standard). More of the same, just bigger.
