So im working on a project where i have some footage i shot with our dvx's thats was shot 30p 4:3 SD and captured using the normal DV ntsc capture preset, which i believe uses the dv ntsc codec. Im also incorpoating some stuff off a dvd using MPEG streamclip which i converted to .mov using the AIC codec. Now i want to make a multi clip but all the clips have to have the same size/ aspect ratio and the same codec to do so... how should i set up all my clips to make them work together and also use the proper codec for editing?

Should i capture the raw dvx footage using AIC, 720x480 3:2
And convert the DVD stuff how i did to match

or

Keep me captured material how i did and use MPEG streamclip and make a .mov using the dv ntsc codec and make the dvd stuff 720x480 3:2.

Whats better having all my footage 720x480 3:2 or 720x480 4:3 or should i do 640x480 4:3 what pixel and aspect ration should i be using???

Thanks guys

You need to decide on a standard and convert anything non-standard to that standard. I would stick to the ratio of your footage, which sounds like DV NTSC 720x480 4:3 (not anamorphic). Then rip the DVD to the same format. If it is anamorphic, you will get 'letter boxing' on the top and bottom, but that can be fixed by zooming in to 133%.

PAR should be NTSC CCIR 601 / DV (720x480)

Field dominance should be Lower (even).

The thing is if u go to a/v settings and check the capture presets I think the DV NTSC preset uses a ratio of 3:2 not 4:3 that's why I ask about that? Is there a bit difference compressing using dv ntsc vs aic ?

So after checking the capture preset for DV NTSC no anamorphic uses 3:2 not 4:3 and is 720x480.

After messing around with streamclip some more to see what its options are, The only thing i can convert to that seems like it might be a good choice for editing are AIC, DV/DVC NTSC, DV PRO 50 and thats it. So i think the DV/ DVC NTSC matches the capture preset but would DV PRO 50 be a good one to edit with?
